More to solve on Bulgarian tax problem

 November 26, 2009, 11:57 am (2 years ago)
Last week’s compromise tax of 12 % on all Bulgarian gambling incomes may have satisfied the members of legislative body, but it certainly disappointed the Prime Minister Boyko Borisov, who aimed to have it higher to balance the budget with a 15 % tax.

Borisov’s scheame was to use the tax incomes produced by a 15 % rate to prevent tax augmentation on hard liquor and keep help young Bulgarians putting efforts into buying their first home.

According to The Novinite news, after meeting with the parliamentary Speaker, Tsetska Tsacheva, Borisov stated that he had requested his GERB party and parliament for the 15 % rate. But parliamentarians had previously granted amendments to eliminate the first home proposal.

Taking the amendments as an error, the prime minister declared to overturn these decisions. The prime minister told local media that he necessitated the 15 % gambling tax to balance the budget and to get the ability to meet commitments to Bulgarian grape growers not to raise the hard liquor tax.
