Poker News: Svenska Spel Gains Record Profit

A gaming company owned and licensed by Swedish Government, has gained record profits in the year 2006. The name of the company is Svenska Spel AB. The company published the report this week. Company’s online poker division also contributed a handsome ratio in the total profit. The online poker division was opened in March 2006.

2006 was the best profitable year in this history of the company. Svenska Spel has made a huge profit of $685 million in the last year. Jesper Karrbrink, CEO of the company said that the online poker division has also performed brilliant.

Karrbrink expressed his view in an interview with the newspaper Dagens "It has really fulfilled its purpose to bring home a big part of the Swedes' unregulated poker playing to a responsible environment within the country's borders".

But Karrbrink expects to see some changes in the present online gaming scenario in Sweden, despite grand success of his company. "New gambling legislation through which all types of gambling are regulated is needed. Whether it's through a state monopoly, or a licence system where we compete with privately owned companies is up to the politicians to decide." He said.

Karrbrink added,” With this record profit to back us up, we will feel pretty comfortable either way"
