Online casino on the rise after the ban in Russia
October 13, 2009, 12:41 pm (2 years ago)The Russian prohibition on casinos and gambling that was issued during this summer has caused a increase of the number of play at Internet casinos. Moscow officials stated on Monday that the country had witnessed a sudden increase in substitute gambling methods, such as online gaming.
"We are very concerned about the increase of surrogate technologies," explained the city's deputy mayor, Sergei Baidakov. "They are the side-effect of flawed legislation."
Internet cafes providing access to online casinos have boosted in number from the July 1st completion of the regulation in opposition to casino gambling. Baidakov also cited the conversion of nearly 200 ex-casinos to outlets selling instant lottery tickets.
Baidakov said the imposition of the gambling ban had had little of the perceived potential impact on tax revenues and unemployment. He noted that only 1500 workers had registered as jobless casino employees, and said tax income in the city was down a meager 0.5 percent.
