iMEGA appel on UIGEA
November 2, 2008, 7:51 am (3 years ago)The widespread coverage and interest in the effort by Kentucky to seize global domains has inclined to drive an additional important legal fight out of the public interest lately, but it was back this week with retribution. It’s about the struggle to upend the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act being implemented in opposition to the U.S. government by the feisty Interactive Media Entertainment and Gaming Association.
Having been given lawful standing by a lower court, on September 29th iMEGA's high powered legal team filed an appeal with the Third Circuit Court in opposition to a previous negative ruling by Judge Mary Cooper in its effort to have the UIGEA declared illegal. This gave the US government a due date by which to act in response, and once this was met iMEGA would have a additional fifteen days to dispute in opposition to the government's answer.
Eventually, these disputes are going to be examined by a panel of judges who are going to come to a decision on the way onward or reach an ultimate conclusion.
