An upsurge of antagonism to Australian governmentOctober 28, 2008, 8:41 am (3 years ago)An upsurge of antagonism to Australian government plans to study an ISP prohibition on Internet gambling and additional unwanted sites appears to be gathering impetus in the Australian media, with numerous newspapers publishing posts and letters from citizens objecting that the Internet should not be examined.
Australian newspapers report that there are anxieties for that the Rudd government’s planned online filter system could examine the Internet to “objectionable” levels, and online users groups are notifying that the government’s resurrected ideas for a multi-million dollar ISP filtering policy could reject a large variety of content, in spite of the reassurance that the original purpose is that the system would censor only “unlawful material”. Family First Senator Steve Fielding would like extreme pornography prohibited under the new filter, whilst independent Senator Nick Xenaphon has proposed that illegitimate abroad gambling websites also be prohibited, as said by Fairfax reports.
