Arrests in Malaysia

 October 16, 2008, 8:33 am (3 years ago)
It was reported by the police in Kuantan, state capital of Pahang, the biggest state in Peninsula Malaya, that they arrested 12 men and confiscated 8 computers after a sequence of anti-online gambling searches conducted throughout the past week.
Internet cafe owners and customers who gambled online while on the site were arrested.

Kuantan police chief ASP Mohd Jasmani Yusoff explained: "The raids at Air Putih, Jalan Beserah and Gebeng found out that the cyber cafes had been utilized as a front for online gambling. The premises owners had abused the operating licenses given [for Internet cafe operations]."

The twelve accused are all in their 20’s and 30’s and have been detained under Section 4 (1) B of the Common Gaming House Act 1953, news agency Bernama reports.
