iMEGA v. Keisler
October 2, 2008, 8:44 am (3 years ago)The Internet freedom pressure group Interactive Media Entertainment & Gaming Association (iMEGA) has set up its brief with the US Court of Appeals, 3rd Circuit, in the issue of iMEGA v. Keisler, et al. The case is the newest action done by the industry organization, which has been given legal standing in a preceding hearing and now confronts the constitutionality of the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act issued in 2006.
The broadly condemned UIGEA banns US monetary public offices from processing transactions between online gambling websites and US citizens, whilst shifting the decision, charge and cost of effectuation on the monetary public offices in the United States, with severe doubts stated by the financial services industry concerning the lacking of accuracy in the regulations advocating the act, and its description of 'illegal gambling.'
iMEGA's appeal follows a ruling by Judge Mary Cooper (US District Court, Trenton) that built iMEGA's associational standing to confront UIGEA in support of its members and the Internet gambling business, but dismissed an earlier case with no consideration of the legitimate issues submitted in iMEGA's dispute.
