This time the tournament will be held at Rio All Suite Hotel and Casino in Vegas, and this 38th annual edition of World Series of Poker will receive stars like Brad Pitt, George Clooney, Matt Damon, Ben Affleck, Adam Sandler, James Woods, Jennifer Tilly, and the list goes on.
The goal of this charity tournament is to help the needy children who are sufferring in some of Africa's regions like Sudan or Darfur. The man behind it all is ace poker face Annie Duke, help and sustained by Don Cheadle, the actor of Hotel Rwanda and Oscar nominee. They want to point media attention on some of the poorest and unsafest regions in Africa who are in desperate need of help. Everyone who participated in the tournament intitled "Ante up for Africa" agreed to offer 50 percent of their earnings to a humanitarian project, called ENOUGH and to the International Rescue Committee. These organizations will sponsor aid actions for the Darfur region and will help the Dargur survivors and wounded. Last year's statistics announced more than 2 million people homeless, abused or injured in this African region. Those participating in the raising of funds include top actors but also famous poker faces, like Erik Seidel, Robert Williamson III or Doyle Brunson. Big names on the poker list apart from those mentioned are Joe Hachem, Chris Ferguson, Howard Lederer, Mike Matusow, Clonie Gowen, Phil Ivey, Phil Gordon, Barry Greenstein and Phil Laak. Other rich celebrities have announced their participation, and we mention Melhi Phifer, Rau Romano, jason Alexamder, Brad Garrett, Shannon Elizabeth and Gina Gershon. An NBA star, Charles Barkely will be there too donating to charity.
