The event concluded at the Atlantis Resort in the Bahamas' Paradise Island on Tuesday. Nagel, whose winnings included an Aston Martin DB9, outplayed 830,000 other competitors in what was the world's largest free online poker tournament, hosted by PokerStars.com.
After five months of online qualifying rounds, PokerStars’ first Moneymaker Millionaire tournament came to an end with Quillian Nagel, of Canada, taking home the grand prize worth over a million dollars.
The final part of the tournament took place as a live three-table grand finale with the top 27 players of the qualifying online games. After 16 hours the 27 had whittled down to a heads-up between Nagel and Jerry Watterson of Florida, both positioned with fairly equal stacks. But inevitably there was only one winner.
Nagel plans to pay off his student loans then to buy his wife a new Toyota Prius and digital camera. A photo gallery of all the action can be found on pokerstarsblog.com.
'This is a life changing experience that I will never forget,' Nagel said after collecting his winnings. 'PokerStars and Chris Moneymaker have been an inspiration and catalyst for everyday poker players all over the world, reminding us that we too can overcome incredible odds and win the big one.'
