The row broke out when players were disappointed to discover they were not playing for the $19,000 they had initially expected. Despite all promotional information regarding the tournament competition detailing the prize of a $2,000 HDTV, a glitch in the gaming software on the day of the tournament presented the information differently; apparently offering a $19,000 cash bonus.
A high profile complaint involving OnGame’s PokerRoom.com and its Christmas Day tournament has finally led to a management response.
The poker room received a barrage of negative feedback, formal complaints and sparked a huge uproar of internet debate. But for many the dispute remains unresolved. Mr. Hornell’s failure to honour the error and appropriately offer the mistaken prize is expected to lose a substantial, although relatively non-threatening, amount of custom.
The website has paid back the players affected and “taken the necessary steps to prevent a situation like this from happening in the future” according to founder Oskar Hornell, who has openly apologised for the situation.
