The Asian Poker Classic (APC), sponsored by MaharajahClub.com, will be the first professional poker tournament to be held in India and will offer one of Asia’s largest ever prize pools with a guaranteed $1 million up for grabs.
With only three months to go until kick off, the Indian resort of Goa is preparing itself for what it expects to be its top attraction for 2007 when it hosts the inaugural Asian Poker Classic on March 1.
The APC has also brought in Austrian Poker expert Thomas Kremser as tournament director. Kremser has been involved in the running of numerous festivals around the world and played a central role in establishing poker on television.
Kremser commented, “The Asian Poker Classic is not just the biggest poker event scheduled for India in 2007 – it’s one of the biggest events anywhere in the world. With big names ready to take part and Goa the perfect setting, it’s the most exciting new poker tournament of the year.”
Sachin Pawa, CEO of tournament sponsors Maharajah Club, said, “We are proud to be associated with such a prestigious event. The APC will promote poker in India and we look forward to the APC becoming a fixture on the poker circuit.”
A number of Bollywood and Hollywood celebrities are expected to make up the playing numbers, with announcements to follow in the near future as to just who we might see at the felt.
