The move builds on the poker room’s 2006 total of $50,000 as it looks to develop rather than consolidate in the wake of the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act in the US, which has forced an economic slowdown for many online operators.
Online poker room, The Great Poker League (GPL), has announced that it has increased its 2007 prize fund by 50 per cent, making $75,000 worth of winnings available for its customers.
'We are delighted to be in a position to increase our Prize Fund for next year. At the GPL we have all been taken back by the rapid growth, despite a number of obstacles, namely the USA Issue. Next year we will be rewarding more of our players,' said Marketing Director, Colin Hawker.
As in 2006, there will also be a major sponsorship contract up for grabs for one of the top players from the annual league.
The poker room has also announced a $1,000 Christmas freeroll for new and existing players, which will take place on December 29.
The extra cash injection will be used to reward the top 50 players in the monthly league (up from 20), with 100 players being financially recognised in the annual league (up from 50).
