France and Sweden ordered to amend gambling legislationJuly 26, 2007, 1:08 am (4 years ago)The European Commission has warned France it will resort to legal action if it does not amend its draft law prohibiting foreign gambling advertising.
The Commission has also threatened Sweden with legal action if the Scandinavian country refuses to scrap limitation on sports gambling services. An EC spokesperson this week confirmed that a detailed document had been sent to the French government outlining the reasons behind its actions. The Commission is concerned that both France and Sweden are hampering companies from other European countries that are trying to do business there. Meanwhile, Greece was also incurred the wrath of the Commission and ordered to provide more details on its rules on gambling. All three countries have two months in which to make the necessary changes to their laws, or face further action such as fines or court proceedings. Hungary, Denmark and Finland were issued with similar warnings this year, while Holland and Germany have faced investigations.
