Google - Can pornography be more "moral" than gambling?April 18, 2007, 9:28 pm (4 years ago)A well respected British publication by the name of New Media Age has uncovered some rather puzzling conflicts in the moral values on the Google search facility this week when it compared search results for porno sites with those for gambling.
The staffers of NMA actually found that on a search for “hardcore porn” on Google that they were presented with what is known as a wide range of selections in both natural and also paid results. However, why they took and searched for “horserace bet” life suddenly became more difficult and rather complied. The market leaders Ladbrokes and William Hill were found to be high in natural research but on the other hand were nowhere to be found in paid search results. NMA notes “for such is the bizarre Google moral code”. “Gambling firms are barred from bidding on search terms, whereas such illustrious brands as Max Hardcore are welcomed with open arms”. The article goes on to explain “it’s also singularly ineffective. Google does accept paid search bidding from affiliates that direct consumers to gambling sites. And the policy does nothing to affect search optimization. All it does is cut off a potentially enormous revenue stream for both SEMs and Google, and force reputable companies to look for loopholes in the system. For the GBP 42 billion a year gambling industry, it cuts off on off the most effective online ad media”. There are just some companies that don’t really want to work to benefit anyone but themselves.
