A 6-year long legal conflict in Germany between Westlotto and Bwin has ceased following the verdict provided by the Federal Supreme Court.
Six years ago, Westlotto, had applied for a restriction to prevent Bwin International, the online gaming operator from mediating, organizing and advertising casino, lottery games and sports betting in Germany.
Consecutively Bwin had received favorable decisions from lower courts due to which Westlotto filed a petition in the Supreme Court. To Westlotto’s dismay the apex court has also couched in the favor of Bwin releasing a statement that Westlotto cannot get the aspired relief from bwin.
Co-CEO of bwin, Norbert Teufelberger, appreciated this verdict by the German Federal Supreme Court. He stated, "… We are glad that we are going to have to spend less of our time in courtrooms in the future. Now we are able to focus on creating up to date regulations for online gaming in Germany. We should keep on supporting the positive regulation of online gaming, contributing the extensive knowledge that we have earned, not least as a licensed supplier in recently regulated markets such as Italy and France."
