A conflict between Marvel Comics and Online Casino
April 21, 2010, 3:20 pm (1 year ago)Despite the five years of successful and lucrative relationship developed between Marvel Comics and online casino developer Cryptologic, Cryptologic has recently started mediation procedure against the comic book designer, claiming that Marvel has violated terms of its licensing agreement.
The collaboration between the two companies started in 2005, when Marvel Entertainment penned an agreement with Cryptologic. The online casino games developer had been granted licensing rights until the year of 2013, giving them the opportunity to utilize Marvel’s characters as themes for their online slots. Throughout the past 5 years, the pair created 17 different slots at some of the Cryptologic-powered casinos, such as Blade, Spiderman, the Hulk and Devil.
However, in 2009, a Marvel affiliated company (Marvel B.V.) did not follow the ‘exclusive’ part of the previous agreement, after making a identical deal with PlayTech. Marvel’s latest partner is a major competitor in Cryptologic’s industry, so the deal made the bad situation even worse.
