Las Vegas Sands goes OnlineDecember 10, 2006, 8:37 am (5 years ago)The website, which is expected to be launched in the second quarter of 2007, will feature company brands including The Venetian, Sands, Palazzo and Paiza. However the site will not be available to customers in the US following the implementation of the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act (UIGEA).
Las Vegas Sands Corporation (LVS), the industry’s leading casino company by market value, has announced that it is to team up with Cantor Gaming to launch an online casino platform to be aimed initially at the UK market. The UK focus would seem to reflect the growing online activity in the European market, with regular online gamblers staking nearly £3.5 billion ($6.9 billion) a year, an average of £1,000 per individual, according to UK government figures. The company will hope to fare better than rival MGM Mirage, which launched its own online brand PlayMGMMirage.com back in 2001, but had to shut the site two years later as it was barred from tapping the US. 'This is another opportunity for our company to create greater awareness of our global brands and further establish our presence and interest in the UK market,' explained Las Vegas Sands Chief Operating Officer Bill Weidner. 'As the Internet gaming landscape continues to evolve, this effort will put us in a strong position to evaluate and react to other potential opportunities.'
