Hawaiian house judiciary committee authorizing gambling
February 11, 2010, 10:44 am (1 year ago)Hawaiian Senator Jon Riki Karamatsu’s House Bill 2759 proposal that the state authorize casinos to license on Hawaiian Home Lands has made its fast political advancement by ensuring the authorization of the House Judiciary Committee.
According to the Honalulu Advertiser, an associated bill - HB2251, which is aimed to establish a gaming commission, also went through the 2nd of 3 votes.
Rep. Karamatsu stated that the state’s economic finances struggles call for a closer examination at gambling proposals, and that well controlled and taxed gambling was a practical option to collect more taxes.
The casino bill progressed out of the Judiciary Committee in spite of sustained disagreement from Hawaiian Homes Commission chairman Kaulana Park and a host of others, such as Honolulu Prosecutor Peter Carlisle.
