Online gambling organization arrested in Hong Kong
November 18, 2009, 10:49 am (2 years ago)Hong Kong police have taken into custody a 32-year-old man accused of running an online gambling organization that profited around 10 million Hong Kong dollars (around US$1.2 million) in just half a year. The information of the suspect is at present being unrevealed.
According to Earth Times, a month-long investigation centered on a website registered outside the Chinese semi-autonomous region, led to this arrest.
Police claim that the subject avoided revelation by collecting bets personally from Hong Kong customers. The organization is alleged to be one of numerous unlawful gambling operations which have left old ways of bookmaking for online Internet operations.
To circumvent detection, gamblers are given passwords to go online and place bets on credit which they purchased from agents, who then transfer the money in bank accounts or deliver it through the border into China where they deliver it to other organization members.
