 November 3, 2009, 8:39 am (2 years ago)
Gary S. Kaplan (50), erector of the unsuccessful and at the present defunct Betonsports plc online gambling site, was charged with 51 months in jail by a court in St. Louis Monday.

He had established the online sports gambling operation and earlier pleaded guilty and consented to pay the penalty of $43.6 million in unlawfully attained income as part of a plea agreement, as said by Associated Press. Prosecutors have stated that amounts to over half of Kaplan’s total worth.

Kaplan had previously transferred the whole forfeited amount from his Swiss bank account to the court.
Kaplan pleaded guilty in August to fraudster scheme, breaching the Wire Wager Act and plotting to infringe. His arrest in Puerto Rico in March 2007 was the beginning of a long imprisonment awaiting trial in which several bail applications were rejected.
