According to the Jacksonville Business Journal, a local company Jacksonville Greyhound Racing Inc. has started up legal action against a string of Internet cafes in the area, indicting the operators of illegitimate gambling.

The plaintiff holds the Jacksonville Kennel Club, the Orange Park Kennel Club and The Poker Room at St. Johns Greyhound Park.

The suit calls 7 Allied Veterans of the World Internet Cafes, claiming that the computer games in the cafes fit the lawful classification of a slot machine insofa as players are able to win credits that are able to be converted to cash.

Howard Korman, president and CEO of the company, stated that “Jacksonville Greyhound Racing strongly believes that Allied Veterans of the World is operating establishments that are not only against the law, but risking to our community as a whole. These so-called ‘internet cafes’ are taking advantage of the regulations and hiding behind the guise of being lawful businesses so as to promote banned gambling.”
