EGBA vs. French gambling draft
July 22, 2009, 8:03 am (2 years ago)The European Gaming and Betting Association (EGBA) have come out against major conditions in a French draft regulation aiming to control online gambling. The French Minister for Budget Eric Woerth is planned to introduce the draft regulation to the finance committee of the French Parliament this week.
EGBA has by now showed strong reservations on key provisions of the draft law and its adequateness with EC Law, such as the limitation on the pay back.
The Association released an announcement stating that Minister Woerth is probably going to guard the idea of a sports betting right to “preserve the integrity of sports”.
Maarten Haijer, Director for Regulatory Affairs at EGBA stated: “The EGBA is agaist what would be a example in Europe: there is no connection between a sports betting right and the veracity of sport.”
