China put delay on computer filter measures

 July 1, 2009, 8:32 am (2 years ago)
It seems like the Chinese government’s effort to censor the Internet by requiring all latest hardware fitted with unique filtering software which planned to be updated constantly by government agencies has been delayed only hours from the due time for its execution.

Branded “Green Dam” the filtering software was manufactured by a Chinese company in what the government explained as shield for its citizens from inappropriate element throughout the Internet. There was a worldwide protest from governments and Internet freedom bodies, and the conclusion on what sites could be prohibited created a risk of extending control over content by the Chinese government.
