Casino News: Virginia operator vs. local police

Virginia operator vs. local police

 June 14, 2009, 5:37 am (2 years ago)
A Roanoke, Virginia Internet cafe operative had responded to local police who came into his business this week with a search warrant after a surreptitious operation that claimed he was providing unlawful internet gambling.

Paul Bennet explained to the police that he is simply selling Internet time, though he operates authorized “promotional sweepstakes” to augment sales.
He explained that punters purchase internet time and for every money they spend, they are granted free entries into his “sweepstakes.” When they are using their internet time, one of the alternatives on the computer is to play casino-like games, but this is just a quick way to disclose sweepstakes winners.

“They think they lined up 3 lemons on the slot machine but that’s not what you did. You pulled a ticket out of the prize pool and then the computer told ‘well I’ve got to put out 3 lemons to tell him he won his 50 dollars’,” explained Bennett.
