Recession still impacting on Gulf Coast casinos

 April 23, 2009, 9:07 am (2 years ago)
Land-based casinos in America’s Gulf Coast area kept on fighting against the consequences of the economic downturn throughout March 2009, experiencing a 16 % fall in incomes compared to March 2008, as said by local media reports and official statistics.

The Sun Herald Biloxi quoted Silver Slipper Casino General Manager John Ferrucci as explaining: “It’s really just a matter of the times. All the operators pretty much were expecting it. But we are by now seeing some boost in April that we didn’t see in March. We are still real confident on the Gulf Coast market.”

The 11 Coast casinos won $101.8 million in March, which was $19 million less than in March 2008, when the casinos won $120.8 million, the Sun Herald reports. River counties casinos went down by $8.6 million year-to-year comparison, making Mississippi’s total casino total gaming income down 10.6 % compared to last March.
