Dutch minister warns TV broadcasters
March 22, 2009, 4:17 am (2 years ago)Dutch Justice Minister Ernst Hirsch Ballin, who is establishing some sort of a reputation for a rather abusive exercise of his authority, was at it again this week, sending alert to television and production companies in opposition to producing poker entertainment programs.
As said by NRC Handelsblad Ballin gave notice to 3 television broadcasters and a production company to discontinue making programs regarding the gambling game of poker throughout a argument on Thursday.
“The broadcasters have crossed the line,” threatened Ballin in reply to calls from 2 Dutch MPs aiming a more progressive approach to the game. “These programs cause people to have the impression that poker is totally legal and safe.”
According to the newspaper, under Dutch gambling regulation, poker is allowed only to be played in branches of the state-owned monopoly holder Holland Casino. Playing poker online is against the law and it may only be played in private homes if no money changes hands.
