Media Metrix has today released its monthly analysis of US consumer activity of top online properties and categories for the month of September, which saw the kick off of the NFL season, the launch of the Autumn TV season, and the remembrance of September 11.
However, the top gaining category for the month was the online gambling industry which saw a 17 percent increase against August, just prior to the approval of legislation which has since seen widespread devastation within the sector.
“As speculation continues about the future of these online gambling sites, fans will very likely continue to turn to fantasy games on traditional sports Web sites, which also saw big increases last month.”
“Congress' move to outlaw online gambling comes at the prime time for football season, as people around the country are placing bets on their favorite teams,” said Jack Flanagan, executive vice president of comScore Media Metrix.
