UEFA to benefit from online Sportsbetting
December 9, 2008, 7:45 am (3 years ago)The European Parliament is now getting ready for a report on online gambling – barely unexpected in these uncertain times for the business considering its relationship with governments. The report is going to concentrate on how the online gaming business has impact on each member states’ business throughout the others’ borders.
One group that is going to be observing this report closely is not a political one nor a business insider, but the Union of European Football Associations. The soccer organization needs lawmakers to appeal the prevention of fraud and scandal by making actions to defend the sport's honesty. But the group asked to receive a fair financial return from sports betting.
Since UEFA’s teams, stadiums and matches are utilized for the sports-betting business to generate money they are requesting for some of the spoils. The soccer union joined the Sports Rights Owners Coalition, representing teams and owners from rugby, cricket, basketball, tennis, and horse racing, in requesting a 'competition organizer's right.'
