Universities and environmental organizations throughout the United States have started to try to generate the fund for their research from the naming rights to new species.
"There is not very much fund to back up this sort of work that is go to discover these new species," explained John Bickham, a Purdue University professor of forestry and natural resources and discoverer of several of the new bats. He explained that money produced by someone who is enthusiastic about the environment, and loves to deal with the history by having a species of creature named after him/her.
