Calls were made for regulated online gambling
December 7, 2008, 9:19 am (3 years ago)According to the reports of Sydney Morning Herald this week, the New South Wales government in Australia has been pushed to critically consider a shoulder-checked figure of licensed and controlled online gambling as a progress in lining up with gambling developments. In the report there was suggestions addressed to the NSW leaders by Alan Cameron, a previous chairman of the Australian Securities and Investments Commission.
The suggestion was made in a report on renovating the betting and racing business, which has dropped with the increase of online betting. Boston Consulting Group approximated A$14 million loss in a year made by the NSW government in gambling tax income because of Internet gambling, and the racing industry losing around A$27 million. But in opposition to a background of dangerous gambling, the report advises the Rees Government to act carefully so as not to offend "good taste or community anticipations".
Cameron advises the government to grant a newly established Casino, Liquor & Gaming Control Authority the control to choose events for betting such as political elections and reality television programs. It also suggests a national reexamination of the betting business to manage the inroads made by Internet betting.
