Mistake that costs unaffordable amount
December 3, 2008, 9:51 am (3 years ago)According to Associated Pres, a US land base casino that by mistake sent coupons to more people than it could afford, had no choice but to ask a big number of customers to take mercy on it.
Hollywood Casino at Penn National Race Course made a promo that rewarded 1,000 loyal VIP members with free slot-machine playing credits. But rather than contacting the privileged 1,000 members, the promotion was unintentionally mailed to 55,000 people, and if everybody asks for the reward, the casino could be responsible for $29 million, reported by the news agency.
Hollywood Casino senior managers decided Monday to partly honor the offer after anxiously calling huge number of customers throughout the weekend. The mistake was first reported by WGAL-TV, which explained that customers had by now began attempting to profit from the offer that took effect Monday.
The reward program was offering $100 in slots points per week from December 1 to January 4, plus 2 free visits to the buffet at the casino in Grantville, said Penn National spokesman Eric Schippers. The direct mailing company working for the casino made a mistake sending the promo to a huge additional client base, Schippers said.
