Ukash goes into African market
November 30, 2008, 9:53 am (3 years ago)Ukash is the European payment system that allows online purchasing by utilizing prepaid receipts, and now it is entering the market of South Africa.
“We predicted a big chance in South Africa,” explains Mark Chirnside, CEO of Ukash. “There are presently no models in the market and this expands a new horizon to online shopping for so many South Africans.”
Chirnside’s statement is based on truthful research. A 2007 survey carried out by Finscope shows that 40 % of South Africans are un-banked. “This has stopped them from being involved in the digital reinvention and transacting online,” explains Chirnside. “It has stopped online businesses from marketing to this section, therefore growing the gap.”
Following the recognition of this great chance, Ukash, cooperating with Blue Label Telecoms, chose to start Ukash in South Africa as part of a joint strategic venture.
