Bodog is an ever popular sports book founded in 1994.December 13, 2007, 10:28 am (3 years ago)Bodog is an ever popular sports book founded in 1994. American gamblers have used the site for horse races, as well as online casino and poker games. 1st Technology LLC has provided the the domain for Bodog since its opening, however, the two companies have recently had a fallout, which was heard in court, and the court’s decision rested with 1st Technology. Due to the fallout, and the decision, Bodog is currently looking for a new domain.
1st Technology has claimed that Bodog was using an illegal method for transmitting multimedia information over a network that requires a reduced bandwidth. Bodog failed to appear at the hearing held in Nevada in June, when 1st Technology presented their case to the courts, and ultimately won the court’s favor. Bodog was ordered to pay 1st Technology $48,937,456 for patent infringement. In a later court date in Washington, Bodog again failed to appear at a hearing held to enforce the earlier verdict. Judge John Erlick then ordered that all Bodog’s domains be confiscated and the control of the domains was transferred to 1st Technology. The court order was handed down on August 21st, and Bodog has been unavailable at their domains since. Bodog founder Calbin Ayre said recently in an official release that “We are working to resolve any of the minor remaining glitches on the alternate site.” The alternate site Ayre is referring to is www.newbodog.com. Bodog has been directing customers to this new site because of DNS issues. So for now, it looks like Bodog plans to remain business as usual, however the case between the two companies will serve as a warning to other online casino companies. With the recent bills being presented in Congress, it seems that US law is finding many ways to regulate the online gambling industry.
