Casino News: Advertising in the UK - Only for white listed casinos

Advertising in the UK - Only for white listed casinos

 August 29, 2007, 3:38 am (4 years ago)
The UK seems to be the center point for discussions revolving around the online gambling industry. The new regulatory bill, set to take effect soon, has been a big focus for online casino owners/operators, as well as players.

One of the main discussion factors of the new bill is the ban on advertising for sites that are not White Listed. The ban will prevent these sites from advertising in any media form in the country. The privilege of making the White List will be severely restricted. Any online casino that does not meet the standards set forth by the UK will not be permitted on the list. This will include casinos, poker rooms, bingo sites, and any online provider of bets. This number will be largely represented by sites located within the EU.

Malta is one country that is privileged enough to be included in the EU. As per the Malta Times, there are at least 27 companies internationally that are restructuring their operations of online gambling to be ready when the new bill takes effect, later this month.

Currently there are 84 online gambling companies that have been accepted. There are 36 more waiting for acceptance. The total number of 147 is a large number for any country, much less the small country of Malta. The anticipation of jobs and attention from other countries around the world, as well as the tourism increase, could prove a great benefit to this small territory. Of course, the drawback of this would be increased taxation and licensing fees.

There are currently only two countries on the White List that are non-EEA listed. Alderney and the Isle of Man are both hoping for the success that Malta has seen. Many other countries are currently waiting to be approved for the White List. The online gambling industry proves to be a large discussion point for many months, even after the implementation of the new regulatory bill.
