ReBlackpool push ahead with casino applicationAugust 6, 2007, 3:46 pm (4 years ago)The proposed super-casino at popular United Kingdom holiday spot Blackpool looks like it might well go ahead despite indications from the British Government that it is opposed to the idea.
British Prime Minister Gordon Brown recently said that the government may not approve a license for the super-casino. However, the company behind the casino ReBlackpool has gone ahead and submitted an outline planning application for the site. The casino was touted as an ideal way to rejuvenate the seaside town, but the British government has said that it is looking at other ways to give the popular resort a face-lift. The recent application is for two casinos, three hotels, a conference center, offices and a promenade. This follows news that another, much more unlikely casino, was launched in Britain last week. Self proclaimed independent mini-state Sealand has launched its own online casino, the Sealand Casino. The Principality, which is not officially recognized despite numerous demands by its ‘Royal Family’, is an old war-time fort located seven miles off the east coast of England. Sealand was established 40 years ago and is ruled by Prince Roy and Princess Joan Bates, and their son Prince Michael, Prince Regent. The operators of the new casino say all winnings are tax free and can be transferred to any bank account in the world. The opening of the casino marks Sealand’s imminent 40th anniversary on September 2.
