GoldenPalace.com paves the way for Thaxton-Khan bout

British Lightweight Jon Thaxton has enlisted the help of his promoter Hennessy Sports and the backing of GoldenPalace.com in a bid to secure a high profile showdown against Olympic silver medalist Amir Khan.

The agreement would pave the way for the mouth watering bout without the requirement for a purse from the event promoter.

Thaxton confirmed that GoldenPalace.com’s contribution would mean that Amir’s promoter would not have to pay a penny.

He added that broadcaster Sky Sports had also been supportive saying they have agreed to his appearance at the event, even though it will be broadcast by ITV.

He said that he was ready for the fight, and challenged Khan that there was no reason left for him to turn down the duel.

“I think I can call myself the best lightweight in Britain. If he wants to take this from me, he won't get a better chance,” said Thaxton.

The marquee event will take place October 6 at the Nottingham Arena.

GoldenPalace.com has a reputation for supporting boxing. In the past it has backed the careers of such boxers as Bernard Hopkins, WBC Light Welter Champ Junior Witter and Carl Froch.

This proposal is the most recent extension of their long term support for Hennessy Sports.

Richard Rowe, chief executive officer of GoldenPalace said that the company has decided it is high time that Thaxton and Khan met in the ring and decided to hurry up the process, adding that it would be a spectacular event.

Hennessy Sports head Mick Hennessy said the initiative was a bid to bypass the limitations that politics and money place on the sport.
