Support for online gambling wanes - surveyJuly 27, 2007, 3:16 pm (4 years ago)Support for online casinos could be losing ground in the United States, according to a recent study undertaken there.
Luntz, Maslansky Strategic Research, a market investigation company, questioned 800 US adults to determine the level of support for online gaming in the United States. The number of opponents to gambling, at 18 percent, has risen two percent in the past year. However, the majority of those surveyed still thought online gaming should be allowed in the United States. However, half of these had reservations and would not agree that “casino gaming is entirely accepted for everybody”. The survey showed that almost four percent of Americans played at an online casino last year. Just over half that number played in an online casino in 2004. Not surprisingly, the research also shows that most online gamblers are young, with the average age being 31. The survey also revealed some confusion about the legality of online gambling – only 19 percent of respondents said that they were aware that online gambling is currently illegal in the United States. A spokesman for the company said that public opinion about gambling and online gambling was probably affected by negative publicity about the activity during the last year.
